Reception
Critics and fans like Squidward. Tom Kenny, SpongeBob voice actor, says Squidward is his favorite. He said:

"He's envious and confused by SpongeBob and Patrick's playing abilities. He doesn't believe in it, so he fails at participating." Staff writer Casey Alexander said, "I identify with Squidward. He is hyperbolically the most human. I think I'd react like Squidward to a SpongeBob-type person.

American artist Pharrell Williams said he likes the show:

But Squidward is my favorite. I would hang out with him if human."

Squidward appears in SpongeBob SquarePants board games, books, plush toys, and trading cards. Along with the television series, Squidward features in SpongeBob Comics (first released in February 2011), multiple SpongeBob SquarePants video games, and theme parks and parades (including Sea World and Universal's Superstar Parade). The first SpongeBob SquarePants movie, released on November 19, 2004, starred Squidward and grossed over US$140 million worldwide. The sequel, released in theaters on February 6, 2015, stars him.
