Wave Rider is an endless surfing game where you drive a jet ski or surfboard around rocks, trees, and waterfalls while collecting starfish. You are more likely to fail the farther and faster you go.
Imagine that you are on a surfboard and you are going fast across the blue water. Waves are rolling in front of you. In front of you, though, there are also reefs, floating logs, sinkholes, and waterfalls that come down and hit your head.
You rush forward. You need to stop. You can't go back. Only three things can you do: pray, turn left, or turn right.
If you touch any object, you'll die. Logs? Rocks that are dead? Dead. Digging a hole? Drop dead. Waterfall? Also dead.
Starfish: Players who are brave can find sparkling starfish as rewards along the way. Get them to get new boards and jet skis. Starfish, on the other hand, tend to live in dangerous places, like next to rocks, in the middle of waterfalls, or on roads where logs float.
Are you brave enough to grab them?
You'll get better, more beautiful boards if you take the chance. It's back to the beginning if you make the mistake.
What kills you is speed.
Your board moves faster as you go farther. At first, it's easy to avoid a log. After a while, everything seems to go by quickly. If you're not quick enough for even a split second, you will hit a rock and be done for.
Not the board. Plan ahead.
Not everything is a starfish. If it's in a dangerous place, please ignore it. More than a star is worth living for an extra 10 seconds.
It gets less greedy as you go. Don't bother earning stars when the speed goes up. The main goal is to stay alive.
Learn to use the tools. Press A, which is the left arrow, to go left. Press D, which is the right arrow, to go right. Press W, which is the up arrow, to go up (accelerate if available).
Get surfboards and jet skis.
You can get a lot of different surfboards and jet skis in the game. Each one looks different, but the most important thing is your skill. No amount of beauty will help you avoid rocks better.
You always tell yourself, "This time I'll do better." After that, you die again. Play again. That's Wave Rider's loop. There's no prize or party at the end. Only the distance you've gone and the satisfaction of beating your own record.
